VMCU Carnival Update
Semi finals have been played over the last two days with mixed results for the BHRDCA teams.
The 16s lost a very close semi final to WRJCA in the penultimate over to end their tournament. A great carnival by the boys and augurs well for the 18s next season as some of these boys progress to that age group next season.
The 12s Mitchell Shield side lost their semi final to a very strong SECA side but can hold their heads high in their first year of representative cricket.
Our 12s girls also were on the wrong end of todays semi final. However, the real plus is to be able to field a team and give the girls the opportunity to play representative cricket. To win 2 of their 3 round robin games and play a semi final will stand them in good stead for their cricketing futures.
The 14s Allan boys were thumped by ECA in the round robin game by 112 runs. But hit back in the semi final by restricting the ECA to 9/133 with a brilliant bowling and fielding display, then running that total down with 5 overs to spare and 5 wickets in hand. They now play Ferntree Gully DCA at Ferndale Park, Glen Iris Rd, Glen Iris on Sunday at 10.30am in a bid to win back to back championships.
The 14s girls bowled first today and a strong RDCA side posted 3/157 after their 30 overs. A daunting target to chase and with a tournament best of 114 it was all uphill. However the girls rallied well with 6 of the 9 girls making double figures to get the win with 2 overs to spare. Bowling half the number of extras certainly helped as they head to their second grand final in the last two seasons. The girls now play North West Metro CA at Lynden Park, Highfield Rd, Burwood on Sunday at 10.30am.
Best of luck to both sides and games can be followed via the VMCU website www.vmcu.vic.cricket.com.au
