Inaugural Deakin Community Cup to support local organisation
Sunday 9th February – Terrara Park, Vermont South will showcase some of the best junior cricket in the Deakin electorate. Ten junior clubs from the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association will join forces making two teams and play three match’s simultaneously in an under-10, under-12 and under-14 carnival.
The BHRDCA Deakin Community Cup will be run with the support from Michael Sukkar MP, Federal Member for Deakin and other businesses in the local area. This is a charity event and all money raised through gold-coin donations will be donated to Taralye, an organsition in Blackburn that assists children with hearing loss.
To decide the teams the electorate has been spilt into North and South, using Central Rd as the geographical borders which means;
North will include Mitcham, Blackburn, Blackburn Nth, Heatherdale & Laburnum, and
South will include Forest Hill, Heathmont, Vermont, Vermont South and Nunawading
The North Team will be named Deakin Hutchinson and the South Deakin Davis after the first two elected MP’s for Deakin.
All participating players will receive a special cap to commemorate the occasion provided by Mr Sukkar, who will also be on hand to make the presentations for team and individual awards at the end of the matches.
The three games will commence at 9.00am with the U/12 and U/14 playing 25 overs each innings and everyone in the community is encouraged to come down to support the players.
Peter White, BHRDCA Junior Section Manager says, “It is sensational to have Michael Sukkar’s involvement in this event. We think this is a fantastic opportunity to not only showcase each of these clubs, but junior cricket as a whole.”
A sausage sizzle and other family entertainment will also be available on the day.
