Thank you to rebel sport for their ongoing support of the BHRDCA
The BHRDCA CoM is saddened to advise of the passing of its esteemed Life Member; Peter White, who passed away on Monday evening (16/8) after a long health battle.
Peter’s contribution to cricket across the BHRDCA for over 30 years and in more recent years to Veterans Cricket Victoria is beyond comparison…
He arrived from New Zealand in the 1970’s and commenced playing District Cricket at Hawthorn East Melbourne and then locally with the Eley Park Cricket Club, where his administration talents soon came to the fore. He served terms as both Secretary and President and then was honoured with Life Membership of his Club.
In the late 1990’s Peter followed through these efforts with the initiation of Veterans cricket in the BHRDCA and until recent years single-handedly oversaw the growth for over 40 year old’s and then over 50 year old’s in the sport to unprecedented levels anywhere in Australia. He dedicated his life to bringing Veterans Cricket to players and clubs in the Eastern suburban corridor until in recent years, under his stewardship, it formed the basis of the Over 50’s competition now participating statewide under the Veterans Cricket Victoria management body.
His contribution to the BHRDCA Committee of Management was enormous and spanned over three decades with terms served as Junior Coordinator and Secretary all while serving as Veteran’s Coordinator for 20+ seasons. Peter’s humble, inclusive and measured approach was appreciated by all who met him along the way and his significant contribution to the BHRDCA was recognised by Life Membership in 2011.
With the formation of Veterans Cricket Victoria (VCV), he led the charge for a national presence at the Veterans Cricket Australia table and again contributed significantly to Victoria’s part in the fastest growing part of the game today. He was awarded Life Membership of VCV in 2019
A lifetime of commitment and dedication to the game, its Associations, its clubs and its people whose loss will be felt by us all.
On behalf of the BHRDCA, its Life Members, Clubs and people, the Committee of Management offers its sincerest condolences to Sue, his boys and the White family on the loss of a great man and magnificent contributor to the BHRDCA and cricket in this State.
