GOOD NEW STORY – BHRDCA Junior growth and player retention
Whilst we are currently still in a holding pattern with cricket I thought it would be an ideal time to share a” good news story “with all on the progress of team nominations for the 2021/22 season.
Five years ago we introduced the Stage 1 (Super 7’s) and Stage 2 (Fast 9’s) concept to the BHRDCA, this superseded the Ankle biters (Under 10) grade of which we had 20 teams competing.
Since its inception the Super 7’s and Fast 9’s concept has grown from 28 teams in year 1 to 43 teams in year 2, 48 in year 3, 61 last season and currently we have a staggering 75 nominations for this season.
I must thank Trevor Hookey for asking the question 3 seasons ago as to “when do we know if this concept will be a success”, the answer was in 6 to 7 seasons time when we can measure the retention rate by the number of Under 16 teams nominated.
Last season we had 26 Under 14 teams nominated whereas this year we have had 33, indicating that the initial group of Super 7’ and Fast 9’ players are being retained at club level reflecting the forecast increase.
Affiliations last season as this stage were a total of 141 teams. Currently 2021/22 affiliations are stand at 168, an outstanding result.
Well done to all, keep up the good work and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me on 0450 336 992.
